Baseball Recap: Royalton-Hartland Turns Things Around After Road Loss

There's no place like home for Royalton-Hartland, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Saturday. They put the hurt on the Barker Bulldogs with a sharp 11-1 win on Monday. With that victory, the Rams brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.

Gavin Heideman made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out 16 batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit (and only one walk). Royalton-Hartland is undefeated when Heideman posts eight or more strikeouts, but 4-7 otherwise. Heideman was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

In other batting news, RJ Townsend and Evan Poeller did most of the damage at the plate: Townsend went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, two RBI, and one double, while Poeller got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those three hits gave Townsend a new career-high. John Brigham was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Royalton-Hartland was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Royalton-Hartland has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-7 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.9 runs over those games. As for Barker, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-13.

As of now, neither Royalton-Hartland nor the Bulldogs have any future games scheduled.
