Soccer Game Preview: Liberty vs. Rustburg

The Liberty Minutemen will head out to square off against the Rustburg Red Devils at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.

Liberty will roll into the game after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up one goal last Tuesday, then bounced right back against Heritage on Thursday. The Minutemen blew past the Pioneers 4-1. Considering Liberty's offense had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.

Meanwhile, Rustburg kept a clean sheet against Amherst County on Wednesday. They put the hurt on the Lancers with a sharp 3-0 victory. The win was some much needed relief for Rustburg as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.

Liberty moved to 5-7 with that victory, which also ended their three-game losing streak. As for Rustburg, their win bumped their record up to 5-9-1.

Liberty skirted past Rustburg 2-1 when the teams last played back in April. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Minutemen since the squad won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
