Basketball Recap: Wellington-Napoleon Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Maddox Blystone and Jonny Hampton

Wellington-Napoleon lost against Kingsville back in January of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. Wellington-Napoleon fell to Kingsville 66-60. While losing is never fun, Wellington-Napoleon can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Missouri basketball rankings (they are ranked 444th, while Kingsville is ranked 193rd).

Wellington-Napoleon's loss came despite strong showings from Jonny Hampton and Maddox Blystone. Hampton went 8-for-11 on his way to 21 points, while Blystone went 6-for-12 en route to 15 points and seven boards. That was a full 35% of Wellington-Napoleon's points, marking the third time in a row Hampton has posted more than a third of the team's points. Jace Mefferd was another key player, putting up three points and five assists.

Wellington-Napoleon's defeat dropped their record down to 8-15. As for Kingsville, they are on a roll lately: they've won 15 of their last 18 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 20-5 record this season.

Wellington-Napoleon didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 74-34 loss against Mid-Buchanan on the 20th. Kingsville has also already played their next contest (against Chilhowee), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
