Softball Game Preview: Turner Lions vs. Highland Park Scots

Turner is 0-3 against Highland Park since March of 2019 but things could change on Friday. The Lions will host the Scots at 6:45 p.m. Turner will be strutting in after a victory while Highland Park will be coming in after a loss.

Having struggled with six defeats in a row, Turner turned things around against Newman Smith on Tuesday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Trojans a 12-0 shutout. The Lions' offense finally found a way to get into gear: the high-octane performance was a 180-degree turn from their last five games.

Grecia De La Garza made a big impact no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 11 over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3. That's the most runs she has posted since back in February of 2024.

In other batting news, Jamisen Graves was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and one stolen base. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jacquelyn Infante, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-2.

Turner was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .560. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Meanwhile, Tuesday just wasn't the day for Highland Park's offense. They came up short against Lone Star on Tuesday, falling 14-0. The Scots' loss continues a trend for the team, making it three in a row.

The win got Turner back to even at 8-8. As for Highland Park, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-13.
