Preview: West Morgan Rebels vs. Cherokee County Warriors
Two dominant backs in Jalen Fletcher and Jacob Cornejo are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The West Morgan Rebels will square off against the Cherokee County Warriors at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
West Morgan had already proven themselves in the regular season, and didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They blew past Corner 35-14. The win was just business as usual for West Morgan, who after 12 games remain undefeated this season.
West Morgan's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Braxton Peters led the charge by throwing for 277 yards and three touchdowns on only 19 passes, while also punching in a touchdown on the ground. Another player making a difference was Ti'Airrius Mosley, who picked up 167 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Cherokee County took their matchup on the road on Friday with ease, bagging a 49-14 victory over Haleyville. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Cherokee County.
Cornejo continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 179 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 8.1 yards per carry. Cornejo has been hot recently, having posted 100 or more rushing yards the last seven times he's played.
Their wins bumped West Morgan to 12-0 and Cherokee County to 11-1.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday's match: West Morgan has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 234.8 rushing yards per game.
