Softball Recap: Palatine Pirates vs. Schaumburg Saxons
Palatine extended their losing streak to four on Monday, dropping their season record down to 13-16-1 in the process. They lost 10-2 to the Schaumburg Saxons. Surprisingly, this marked the Pirates' fifth straight game in which the away team has come away the victor.
As for Schaumburg, they pushed their record up to 10-15 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games.
For Schaumburg's part, Madison Linnemann was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. Those eight strikeouts gave Linnemann a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs.
In other batting news, Jordan Murtaugh was incredible, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with four RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Taylor Dolecki, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Palatine will host Hampshire at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Schaumburg, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Glenbrook North at 4:45 p.m. on Friday.
