Volleyball Recap: Sartell-St. Stephen's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Friday

Sartell-St. Stephen lost against Maple Grove back in October of 2018, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Sabres fell 2-0 to the Crimson. The Sabres' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Olivia Terhune paced Sartell-St. Stephen's offense, picking up six kills. Terhune got some help from Kate Thompson and her nine assists. Terhune was also a major player on defense: she and Keely Gugissberg shared the team lead in blocks, finishing with two each.

Maple Grove got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Amanda Swiers out in front who had 13 assists and four digs. Swiers is on a roll when it comes to assists, as she's now posted 13 or more in each of the last three games she's played. Mckinley Hardle was another key player, getting eight digs and one assist.

Sartell-St. Stephen's defeat dropped their record down to 6-6. As for Maple Grove, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 8-3.

Coincidentally, Sartell-St. Stephen and Maple Grove will both be playing Blaine the next time they take the court. The Sabres will head out to face the Bengals at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, while the Crimson will play them later in the day, at 7:30 p.m.
