Basketball Recap: Smith County Sets Scoring Season-High Against Jellico

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Smith County). They enjoyed a cozy 89-75 victory over the Jellico Blue Devils on Friday. This was payback for the Owls, who suffered an 89-77 loss the last time these two teams met.

When it comes to explaining why Jellico lost, don't look at Trey Vann. Despite the final result, he went 13-for-21 to rack up 30 points and six rebounds. Vann's afternoon made it six games in a row in which he has scored at least 18 points. Another player making a difference was Gavin Dabney, who shot 47% from the field on his way to 18 points and three steals.

The win made it two in a row for Smith County and bumps their season record up to 2-3. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 81.5 points over those games. As for Jellico, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-2.

Coincidentally, Smith County and Jellico will both be playing Pickett County the next time they take the court. The Owls will head out to face the Bobcats at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, while the Blue Devils will head out to face them at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday.
