Baseball Game Preview: Cherokee Chiefs vs. Grainger Grizzlies

For the second straight game, Cherokee will face off against Grainger. Cherokee will welcome Grainger at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Cherokee has given up an average of 6.6 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Cherokee was handed a nine-run loss in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Monday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 13-11 victory over Grainger. The Chiefs haven't had any issues with the Grizzlies recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.

Porter Owen looked comfortable as he struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off five hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Cherokee got a big performance out of Charles Wagoner, who scored two runs while going 4-for-5. Cherokee is undefeated when Wagoner posts two or more runs, but 2-7 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Manning Brooks, who scored three runs while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.

Cherokee's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-7. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.7 runs on average over those games. As for Grainger, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-9.
