Softball Game Preview: Elk Grove Grenadiers vs. Taft Eagles

The Elk Grove Grenadiers will square off against the Taft Eagles at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.

Palatine hit Elk Grove with a four-run fifth inning on Thursday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Grenadiers took a 7-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Pirates. The Grenadiers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Kaitlin Wirtz was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Taft can bid farewell to their three-game losing streak thanks to their game on Saturday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Prospect, sneaking past 5-3.

Lorelei Monk looked comfortable as she tossed 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one walk in seven consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Victoria Perez, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with one run, one double, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Mia Perez, who went 2-for-4 with two runs.

Elk Grove's defeat dropped their record down to 10-13. As for Taft, their win bumped their record up to 19-13.

Elk Grove came up short against Taft in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, falling 5-1. Can the Grenadiers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
