Softball Recap: Madras White Buffalos vs. Molalla Indians
Madras had lost 16 straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Tuesday they dropped down to 4-24 to make it 17. They lost 14-4 to the Molalla Indians. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Indians this season, with their most recent loss being a 5-4 defeat back in April.
As for Molalla, they moved to 15-14 with that victory, which also ended their six-game losing streak. They not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since April 16th (when they won 13-2).
For Molalla's part, Brooklyn Brady and Brenna Jackson made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Brady tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits. Meanwhile, Jackson struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. At bat, Brady went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run and one RBI, while Jackson fired off two home runs, six RBI, and three runs while going 3-for-4. Those six RBI gave Jackson a new career-high.
In other batting news, Paetyn Smith and Madison Shultz did most of the damage at the plate: Smith went 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBI, while Shultz got on base in three of her five plate appearances with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That's the most runs Shultz has posted since back in March. Brylee Kliewer was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
