Football Recap: Pearland Piles Up the Points Against Manvel + How To Watch

Pearland extended their winning streak to five on Friday, bumping them up to 5-0. They really took it to the Manvel Mavericks for the full four quarters, racking up a 66-14 victory. Considering the Oilers have won four games by more than 23 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

It was another big night for Ja'Maurey Champion, who rushed for 180 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 10.6 yards per carry. He showed off some serious burst, turning on the afterburners on one carry for 50 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Jake Westmoreland, who threw for 154 yards and a pair of TDs on only 14 passes.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Pearland was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 371 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in November of 2024.

Pearland didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off four passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Anthony Deleon, Ed Smith, Roy Johnson, and Sam Armstrong picked up one apiece. Deleon has been hot for a while, having also posted five or more total tackles the last 15 times he's played.

As for Manvel, they now have a losing record of 2-3. The contest marked their lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.

Despite the defeat, Manvel saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Ju'Von Smith forced one fumble and made ten total tackles.

Pearland and Manvel should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings. The Oilers (ranked 48th) will meet Dawson (ranked 144th) at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Manvel will square off against South Houston at 7:00 p.m. on Friday with a big rank advantage (204 vs. 881).
