Basketball Recap: Hoggard Skates Past West Carteret with Ease

There's no place like home for Hoggard, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Saturday. They really took it to the West Carteret Patriots for the full four quarters, racking up a 78-49 victory.

Hoggard was led to victory by Will Seward and Hunter McGrath. Seward went 11-for-16 en route to 27 points and eight rebounds, while McGrath shot 50% from the field on his way to 18 points along with seven boards and five assists. The matchup was Seward's fourth in a row with at least 23 points. Another player making a difference was Lukas Batchelor, who posted seven points and six boards.

They weren't the only ones working in the assist department: Hoggard was working as a unit and finished the game with 17 assists. They racked up six more assists than West Carteret's also-impressive total of 11.

Despite the loss, West Carteret still got an impressive performance from Larry Tootle, who put up eight points. Jejuan Tripp was another key player, putting up eight points.

Hoggard's win was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 2-1. As for West Carteret, their loss dropped their record down to 3-2.

Looking ahead, Hoggard will challenge Miller School of Albemarle at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Vikings' defense better be ready for this one: the Mavericks have averaged an impressive 81.2 points per game this season. As for West Carteret, they will face off against Farmville Central at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
