With a playoff win on the line, Tuscaloosa Academy rose to the challenge on Thursday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Ariton Purple Cats, sneaking past 5-3. The win was familiar territory for the Knights, who have now won five matchups in a row.

Ellis Hamiter spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on six hits. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Tuscaloosa Academy is 2-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 16-17 otherwise.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Russell Cole, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. That home run marked the first that he has launched this season.

The victory got Tuscaloosa Academy back to even at 18-18. As for Ariton, the loss snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 28-9 record.
