Softball Recap: Delta Has No Trouble Against Elwood

Delta hadn't done well against Elwood recently (they were 1-7 in their previous eight matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Eagles were the clear victors by a 14-4 margin over the Panthers. Considering the Eagles have won seven contests by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Kaitlynn Burns spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on eight hits.

At the plate, Delta got a massive performance out of Destinee Drown, who went 3-for-4 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run. Those three hits gave Drown a new career-high. Haley Loser was another key player, going 4-for-5 with three runs.

Delta always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .525. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Elwood only posted an OBP of .333.

The win made it two in a row for Delta and bumps their season record up to 8-14. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.5 runs over those games. As for Elwood, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last seven games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-17 record this season.

Delta will be playing at home against New Palestine at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Elwood, they will face off against Tipton at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
