Softball Recap: Camden County Wins Going Away Against Hertford County

Camden County got themselves on the board against Hertford County on Thursday, but Hertford County never followed suit. They were the clear victors by a 16-0 margin over the Bears. Considering the Bruins have won seven matches by more than six runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Cayleigh Martin made a splash while hitting and pitching. She pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 1-for-1.

In other batting news, Camden County got a massive performance out of Ellie Barker, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3. What's more, Barker posted three RBI, the most she's had since back in May of 2024. Emma Young was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3.

Camden County was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .588. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

The victory made it two in a row for Camden County and bumps their season record up to 9-5. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.5 runs over those games. As for Hertford County, they are on a ten-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-14.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Camden County beat the Bears by a score of 18-0 later that day.
