Basketball Game Preview: Missouri Valley Big Reds vs. Treynor Cardinals

Missouri Valley hasn't had much luck against Treynor recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Missouri Valley Big Reds will take on the Treynor Cardinals at 7:30 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Last Friday, Missouri Valley came up short against Underwood and fell 66-56. While losing is never fun, the Big Reds can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Iowa basketball rankings (they are ranked 296th, while the Eagles are ranked 81st).

Meanwhile, Treynor had already won six in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 26.8 points) and they went ahead and made it seven on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 75-72 victory over the Vikings. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Cardinals have posted since January 23, 2024.

Treynor has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 12-3 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 68.6 points per game. As for Missouri Valley, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-13.

Missouri Valley was taken down by Treynor 72-43 when the teams last played back in December of 2024. That game was all but decided by halftime, at which point Missouri Valley was down 41-19.
