Softball Recap: Bishop's Victorious

Bishop hadn't beaten Santa Fe Christian on the road since March 19, 2019 but that history sure didn't bother them on Thursday. The Knights came out on top against the Eagles by a score of 6-2. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since April 27, 2019, but that streak is no more.

Sydney Mafong spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on three hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Jayla Stafford, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jessica Yao, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one triple.

Bishop's victory bumped their record up to 9-5-1. As for Santa Fe Christian, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-7.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Bishop's is set to challenge their familiar foe Escondido Charter at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Knights 3.9, the Tigers 2.1) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Santa Fe Christian will square off against rival Francis Parker at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
