Recap: Whitehorse Raiders vs. Green River Pirates
After flying high against the Northwest Falcons last Thursday, the Whitehorse Raiders came back down to earth. Whitehorse suffered a tough 78-58 defeat at the hands of Green River on Tuesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss Whitehorse has suffered since December 2, 2023.
When it comes to explaining why Whitehorse lost, one person who can't be blamed is Lyric Phillips. Despite the final result, he scored 28 points. That was a full 48.3% of Whitehorse's points, marking the fifth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Adam Joe was another key contributor, scoring nine points.
Green River's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Raul Mendoza, who scored 22 points. Another player making a difference was Jason Hernandez, who scored 20 points.
Whitehorse now has a losing record at 7-8. As for Green River, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 11-5.
Whitehorse will head out on the road to challenge Monument Valley at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Utah (Monument Valley is ranked 137th, while Whitehorse is ranked 123rd). As for Green River, they will be playing at home against Bryce Valley at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday.
