Basketball Recap: Smith Center Redmen vs. Sylvan-Lucas Mustangs
It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Smith Center had no problem doing just that on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 46-44 victory over the Sylvan-Lucas Mustangs. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Redmen also won the last time the pair played back in December of 2022.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Smith Center to victory, but perhaps none more so than Leah Mckelvey, who posted 14 points and eight boards. Thanks to that strong game, Mckelvey now owns an excellent 42.3% three-point shooting accuracy. Another player making a difference was Ellie Pruden, who shot 42% from the field en route to 15 points.

Smith Center's win ended a six-game drought on the road and puts them at 7-14. As for Sylvan-Lucas, their loss was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 11-6-1.
Looking ahead, Smith Center will face off against Phillipsburg at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Phillipsburg will roll in looking for their tenth straight victory, something Smith Center surely won't give up without a fight. Sylvan-Lucas does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
