League recap: South Brunswick falls to upstart Piscataway

Piscataway scored a stunning upset when it knocked off South Brunswick, 47-14. At the time, the Vikings was ranked 25th in the state, while the Chiefs was 42nd.

The biggest upset of the week belonged to North Brunswick, who took down 144th ranked J.P. Stevens, 33-21. Tim Parson threw for 123 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 78 yards in the win.

Jaylen Hobdy was the best wideout in Greater Middlesex - Red this week as the Raiders defeated the Hawks. Hobdy racked up two receptions for 61 yards. Jarai Wise helped North Brunswick's passing attack out by catching three balls for 48 yards.

Chiebuka Chukwuneke was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 130 yards on 15 carries as J.P. Stevens bested J.P. Stevens. Teammate Jared Mincey added to the ground attack by rushing for 79 yards.

Thanks to the talents of Stephen Karoly and Akeer Franklin Monroe Township has been able to do all sorts of things on offense. Karoly leads the league in passing with 559 yards, while Franklin has rushed for 533 yards this season. South Brunswick's TJ Taylor leads the league in receiving yards with 271 on 10 catches.

The marquee game in the league this week will be the clash between Piscataway and Sayreville. Dan Higgins' team enters the game ranked 14th in the state, while the Bombers ranks 15th.

The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when the Chiefs take on Sayreville. Piscataway has allowed 61 points this season, while George Najjar's team has given up 36. The Chiefs allowed 14 points last week as they bested Joe Goerge's team.

Piscataway was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after topping the Vikings. The Chiefs came in at 14 in the state poll after placing at number 42 last week.
