Softball Game Preview: Voorheesville Blackbirds vs. Schoharie Storm

The Voorheesville Blackbirds will head out to challenge the Schoharie Storm at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.

Voorheesville is probably headed into the game with a chip on their shoulder considering Schalmont just ended the team's four-game winning streak on Wednesday. They fell just short of the Sabres by a score of 6-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Blackbirds have suffered since April 14th.

Voorheesville saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Savannah Schmidt, who went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. That double was Schmidt's first of the season.

Meanwhile, Schoharie beat Canajoharie 8-3 on Wednesday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Storm.

Kayla Hayes made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in April. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Madison Reinhart, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Another player making a difference was Alaina Martin, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one double.

Schoharie was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .469. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Schoharie's record now sits at 6-7. As for Voorheesville, their loss dropped their record down to 8-10.
