Leyden is 0-7 against Downers Grove North since May of 2016 but things could change on Saturday. The Eagles will be playing at home against the Trojans at 10:00 a.m. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
Leyden took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Wednesday. They skirted past Berwyn/Cicero Morton 5-4. The Eagles haven't had any issues with the Mustangs recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.

The team relied heavily on Sammy Calderon, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jacob Ganir, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two doubles, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Downers Grove North posted their closest victory since April 10th on Thursday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Oak Park-River Forest, sneaking past 7-6.
Nick Konopiots looked comfortable as he tossed 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Emilio Gandarilla was excellent, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of JD Cumbee, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Leyden's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-6. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.7 runs over those games. As for Downers Grove North, their win bumped their record up to 16-3.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Saturday as neither team is afraid to steal. Leyden has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.5 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Downers Grove North struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 4.5 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
