Baseball Recap: Raines Vikings vs. Ribault Trojans

Raines extended their losing streak to three on Tuesday, dropping them down to 1-11. They came up short against the Ribault Trojans, falling 19-11. William Cobb and Jordan Williams stepped up to the plate in a big way. Cobb got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI, while Williams got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double. Cobb has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times he's played. Daniel Davis also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

As for Ribault, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 7-7. 19 seems to be a good number for them as the squad scooped up a victory with the same number of runs in their previous game.

On Ribault's side, Cristhian Leyva-Morales made a big impact no matter where he played. He struck out 12 batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off four hits. Leyva-Morales has become a key player for Ribault: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least eight strikeouts, but 4-6 otherwise. Leyva-Morales was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.

In other batting news, Jaquarius Moore was incredible, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, five RBI, and two runs. He is becoming a predictor of Ribault's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 4-7 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Terlaius Griffin, who went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI.

Coming up, Raines will take on Westside at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Ribault, they will face off against Duval Charter at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
