Baseball Recap: Chowchilla Has No Trouble Against Sierra

Chowchilla won the last time they faced Sierra and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Tribe put the hurt on the Chieftains with a sharp 11-1 victory. Considering the Tribe have won six games by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Austin Lathrop spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on five hits. He is becoming a predictor of Chowchilla's success: when he allows at most one earned run the team is 3-1 (and 3-8 when he doesn't).

On the hitting side, Chowchilla got a massive performance out of Davian Stephenson, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3. The Tribe are 3-1 when Stephenson posts two or more runs, but 3-8 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Tristan Beardsley, who scored three runs while going 4-for-4.

Chowchilla was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. The last time their batting average was this high was back in May of 2024.

Chowchilla is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 6-9 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.2 runs on average over those games. As for Sierra, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-4.

Chowchilla will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Chieftains: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
