Baseball Game Preview: May River Sharks vs. Hilton Head Island Seahawks

May River is 8-1 against Hilton Head Island since March of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Sharks will host the Seahawks at 6:30 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (May River has four straight victories, Hilton Head Island has five straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Hilton Head Island's hitters are going to have their work cut out for them on Monday: May River hadn't allowed a single run the last four times they've hit the field. The Sharks never let Colleton County get on the board and left with a 4-0 win on Friday.

The result came thanks to Micah Morgan's shutout, as he gave up just three hits and racked up nine Ks.

At the plate, May River saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Tysen Brasington, who went 2-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. Brasington is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games he's played. Gustavo Gomez also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Meanwhile, Hilton Head Island lost 14-3 to Philip Simmons on Wednesday.

May River's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-8. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.5 runs over those games. As for Hilton Head Island, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-15.

May River beat Hilton Head Island 6-3 when the teams last played back in March of 2024. Will the Sharks repeat their success, or do the Seahawks have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
