Basketball Recap: Trinity of Durham and Chapel Hill Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Avery Togni and Claire Schutte

Trinity of Durham and Chapel Hill was the 30-26 winner over St. Thomas More Academy when they last played one another back in February of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Trinity of Durham and Chapel Hill Lion took a 40-21 bruising from the St. Thomas More Academy Chancellors on Friday. The contest was a 10-10 toss-up at halftime, but the Lion couldn't quite close it out.

Trinity of Durham and Chapel Hill's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Claire Schutte, who posted four points along with 17 boards and eight blocks, and Avery Togni, who had eight points and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Allie McIntosh, who earned three points.

St. Thomas More Academy's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Adella Dehring, who put up 15 points along with five boards and four steals. Dehring is trending in the right direction considering she's improved her point production for four straight games. Winnie Dehring was another key player, putting up eight points along with six rebounds and three steals.

Trinity of Durham and Chapel Hill dropped their record down to 1-8 with the defeat, which was their fourth straight at home. As for St. Thomas More Academy, with the win, they broke their four-game losing streak and moved their record to 5-9.

Trinity of Durham and Chapel Hill will venture away from home to square off against Thales Academy Apex at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for St. Thomas More Academy, they will welcome Neuse Christian Academy at 5:15 a.m. on Tuesday. Neuse Christian Academy's defense has only allowed 27.2 points per game this season, so St. Thomas More Academy's offense will have their work cut out for them.
