Basketball Recap: Belmont Falls Despite Big Games from Sun'nyah Johnson and Mashayla Valentine

Belmont played a tough game on Tuesday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They came up short against the Cincinnati College Prep Academy Lions, falling 53-28. The Bison were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 27-7.

Despite the loss, Belmont had strong showings from Mashayla Valentine, who posted 14 points and three steals, and Sun'Nyah Johnson, who had four points. Those points were Johnson's first of the season.

Even though they lost, Belmont smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've posted since back in December of 2023.

Belmont has been struggling recently as they've lost 11 of their last 12 matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-15 record this season. As for Cincinnati College Prep Academy, their victory ended a six-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-6.

Belmont wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 50-29 defeat against Ponitz Career Tech on the 23rd. Cincinnati College Prep Academy has also already played their next game, a 66-35 loss against Aiken on the 25th.
