Basketball Recap: Union Find Success

If Paw Paw wanted to avenge their loss from the last time they played Union, they should've done a better job of containing Braylon Ward. The Union Tigers enjoyed a cozy 64-45 win over the Paw Paw Pirates on Friday thanks in part to Ward, who went 10 of 20 en route to 28 points in addition to seven boards and five assists. That makes it three consecutive games in which he has scored at least a third of Union's points.

The team also got some help courtesy of Eric Linkswiler, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 11 rebounds. He is becoming a predictor of Union's success: when he posts at least ten boards the team is 2-1 (and 4-5 when he doesn't).

The victory got Union back to even at 6-6. As for Paw Paw, they dropped their record down to 5-12 with the defeat, which was their third straight on the road.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Union will venture away from home to challenge Pendleton County at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Paw Paw, they are taking a road trip to square off against Calvary Christian Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
