Basketball Game Preview: Coventry Oakers vs. Pilgrim Patriots

The Coventry Oakers will head out on the road to square off against the Pilgrim Patriots at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Coventry is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Rhode Island's top teams: St. Raphael Academy, who was ranked 25th at the time (Coventry was ranked 19th). Coventry claimed a resounding 73-40 victory over St. Raphael Academy.

Meanwhile, Pilgrim was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Tuesday as they fell 72-67 to South Kingstown. The loss continues a trend for the Patriots in their matchups with the Rebels: they've now lost three in a row.

Coventry has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 10-7 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.8 points per game. As for Pilgrim, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-7.

Coventry suffered a grim 67-46 defeat to Pilgrim in their previous meeting back in December of 2023. Can Coventry avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
