Baseball Recap: Armstrong Comes Up Short

Armstrong dropped their record down to 12-8 on Monday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins at home. They fell just short of the Hoopeston Cornjerkers by a score of 5-3. The Trojans were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Cornjerkers apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.

Armstrong saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Davyn Franzen, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI.

As for Hoopeston, their win ended a six-game drought on the road and puts them at 9-17. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory they have posted since April 15th.

On Hoopeston's side, Dylan Judy spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on four hits and racked up 11 Ks. The Cornjerkers are 3-1 when Judy posts eight or more strikeouts, but 6-16 otherwise.

Coming up, Armstrong will take on Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Hoopeston, they will face off against North Vermillion at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
