Softball Recap: Middleton Wins High-Profile Matchup Against Nampa

Middleton faced Nampa in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Wednesday. The Vikings were the clear victors by a 14-1 margin over the Bulldogs. Considering the Vikings have won ten matchups by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Libby Garcia tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Kenadi Whitlow was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with one home run and four RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. Ashlynn Pohl also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Middleton was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .419. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Nampa only posted a batting average of .167.

The victory (which was Middleton's third in a row) raised their record to 17-3. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Nampa, their defeat dropped their record down to 14-5.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Middleton will square off against rival Vallivue at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (the Vikings have won ten straight at home, while the Falcons won five straight on the road), something that'll have to change. Meanwhile, Nampa is set to take on their familiar foe Caldwell at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
