Basketball Recap: Hellgate's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Thursday

After a string of five wins, Hellgate's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They fell just short of the Flathead Braves/Bravettes by a score of 42-40. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Knights came into the matchup with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Montana basketball rankings (they are ranked 30th, while the Braves/Bravettes are ranked 103rd).

Hellgate lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Zane Gillhouse, who shot 44% from the field to rack up 16 points in addition to eight boards and four steals. Those four steals gave him a new career-high. Spencer Wayland was another key player, going 7-for-11 on his way to 14 points.

Flathead's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Lyric Ersland, who posted 14 points and six rebounds. Another player making a difference was Dustyn Franchini-White, who put up nine points.

Hellgate's loss dropped their record down to 14-5. As for Flathead, with the win, they broke their 15-game losing streak and moved their record to 3-16.

As of now, neither Hellgate nor Flathead have any future games scheduled.
