Basketball Game Preview: Mattoon Greenwave vs. Mahomet-Seymour Bulldogs

Mattoon and Mahomet-Seymour are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2020, but not for long. The Mattoon Greenwave will head out on the road to challenge the Mahomet-Seymour Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Mattoon is coming into the match on a three-game losing streak.

Mattoon saw some tournament action back in December of 2024. They took a 60-54 hit to the loss column at the hands of Centennial. While losing is never fun, the Greenwave can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 460th, while the Chargers are ranked 181st).

Meanwhile, Mahomet-Seymour suffered their closest loss since January 11, 2024 on Saturday. They fell just short of Richwoods by a score of 52-49.

Mahomet-Seymour now has a losing record at 6-7. As for Mattoon, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-13.

Mattoon came up short against Mahomet-Seymour in their previous meeting back in December of 2024, falling 82-74. Can Mattoon avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
