Santa Teresa (San Jose, Calif.) captured the lead on a touchdown run by
Austin Richelle with 1:00 to go in the fourth quarter to upset
Pioneer (San Jose, Calif.) 16-15 on Saturday.
After taking the lead on a
Devin Appleton touchdown run, the Mustangs went into halftime with a 7-3 lead. The Saints took the lead for good with a Richelle touchdown run in the fourth quarter.
Despite scoring seven points in the third, Santa Teresa still trailed by 1 point going into the fourth quarter. But six points in the fourth helped ST pull out the victory.
Pioneer was doomed to defeat after missing a two-point conversion in the the fourth quarter quarter.
Dominic Barnes played well for PHS. The senior running back ran for one touchdown. His performance brought his touchdown total to four on the year.
Richelle played well for the Saints in the victory. The senior quarterback threw one touchdown and ran for one touchdown. He has now scored four touchdowns on the season.
The victory is a complete turnaround from last season's game between these two teams, which the Mustangs took, 31-6.
Santa Teresa (3-1) goes up against Piedmont Hills in a Mount Hamilton game matchup next week, while Pioneer (1-3) locks horns with Independence also in a Mount Hamilton game.
