Basketball Game Preview: Rising Sun Shiners vs. South Decatur Cougars

Rising Sun hasn't had much luck against South Decatur recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Shiners will venture away from home to square off against the Cougars at 7:30 p.m. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Rising Sun took a loss when they played away from home on Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Saturday. They breezed past Cambridge City Lincoln to the tune of 72-20.

Rising Sun's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Vicky Erickson, who dropped a double-double with 19 points and 11 boards, and Carrigan Friend, who shot 58% from the field en route to 16 points along with five assists and five steals. Those five assists gave Friend a new career-high. Bailey Burke was another key player, putting up nine points and three steals.

Meanwhile, it may have taken overtime to finish the job, but South Decatur ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They secured a 43-37 W over Morristown. The Cougars' win was nothing new given the team hasn't lost yet this season.

South Decatur's record now sits at 3-0. As for Rising Sun, the victory got them back to even at 1-1.

Rising Sun ended up a good deal behind South Decatur in their previous meeting back in November of 2024, losing 45-26. Thankfully for the Shiners, Makalya Somers (who dropped a double-double with 18 points and ten rebounds) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
