Baseball Recap: Seneca Valley Puts Losing Streak Behind Them

Seneca Valley came into Friday's matchup having lost five straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Watkins Mill Wolverines a 16-0 shutout on Friday. That's more bragging rights for the Screamin' Eagles, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Carter Ashby and Max Inman made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Ashby pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Inman struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Seneca Valley is 2-1 when he allows at most three earned runs, but 0-4 otherwise. At the plate, Ashby scored two runs while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances, while Inman scored three runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-4. Those three hits gave Inman a new career-high.

In other batting news, Seneca Valley let Nathan Rampersaud and Kane Wu run wild. Rampersaud scored two runs and stole a base while going 4-for-4, while Wu scored two runs while going 2-for-4. The dominant performance also gave Wu a new career-high in doubles (two). Vyomesh Parasa was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-5.

Seneca Valley always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .553. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive contests.

Seneca Valley's victory bumped their record up to 2-5. As for Watkins Mill, their defeat was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-2.

Looking ahead, Seneca Valley will face off against Quince Orchard at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Watkins Mill, they will take on Richard Montgomery on Monday.
