The Delphi Community Oracles will square off against the South Newton Rebels at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Delphi Community has four straight wins, South Newton has 16 straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
On Thursday, Delphi Community had just enough and edged out Rossville 5-4.

Brett Huffman made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Delphi Community is 3-1 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 4-5 otherwise. Huffman was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Hunter Wandrei, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2024.
The home team had won the previous three meetings between South Newton and Benton Central, and Benton Central kept the tradition alive. The Rebels fell just short of the Bison by a score of 8-6 on Thursday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Rebels have suffered since April 11th.
South Newton saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Aidan Mattox, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. Landen Schwartz was another, earning one run and two stolen bases.
South Newton's loss dropped their record down to 0-11. As for Delphi Community, they now have a winning record of 7-6.
South Newton's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Delphi Community hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .332. It's a different story for South Newton, though, as they've only averaged .206. Will they be able to contain Delphi Community's hitters?
Delphi Community took their victory against South Newton in their previous matchup back in April of 2019 by a conclusive 20-2 score. Do the Oracles have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Rebels turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
