Basketball Recap: Cardinal Stritch Comes Up Short

Cardinal Stritch was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They took a 71-62 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Montpelier Locomotives. While losing is never fun, the Cardinals can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 727th, while the Locomotives are ranked 353rd).

Montpelier's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was C.J. Fidler, who en route to 31 points. Fidler's evening made it six games in a row in which he has scored at least 15 points. Kenneth Smeltzer was another key player, dropping a triple-double with 15 points, ten rebounds, and ten assists.

Cardinal Stritch's defeat dropped their record down to 4-18. As for Montpelier, their win bumped their record up to 17-5.

Cardinal Stritch does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Montpelier, they will welcome Edgerton at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Edgerton will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something Montpelier surely won't give up without a fight.
