Flag Football Recap: Santa Barbara Takes a Loss

Santa Barbara managed to slip by Rio Mesa the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Dons had to suffer through a 39-12 loss at the hands of the Spartans. The Dons have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Rio Mesa's win on Tuesday was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jadeline Gonzalez, who threw for 160 yards and five touchdowns. What's more, Gonzalez racked up 101.2 passer rating, the most she's had over her last eight contests. Nona Moreno also helped with two TDs in total.

Santa Barbara's loss dropped their record down to 6-11. As for Rio Mesa, their win ended a six-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 7-12.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Santa Barbara will take on Oxnard at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Dons' defense better be ready for this one: the Yellowjackets have averaged an impressive 27.1 points per game this season. As for Rio Mesa, they will head out to take on San Marcos at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The Royals' defense has only allowed 4.4 points per game this season, so the Spartans' offense will have their work cut out for them.
