Football Preview: Roosevelt Eagles vs. Sundown Roughnecks

The Roosevelt Eagles will square off against the Sundown Roughnecks at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Sundown took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Roosevelt, who comes in off a win.

Last Friday, everything went Roosevelt's way against Stanton as Roosevelt made off with a 36-14 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Eagles.

Nate Casarez continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 167 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 9.3 yards per carry, and also throwing for 76 yards and a touchdown on only seven passes. He didn't just play on offense: he also forced two fumbles and made 15 total tackles in addition to snagging an interception. Another player making a difference was Jaden Zuniga, who gained 77 total yards and a touchdown.

Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Roosevelt was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 351 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 153 rushing yards in 17 consecutive matchups dating back to last season.

Roosevelt wouldn't let Stanton keep a hold of the ball as they managed to force two fumbles. Casarez was the leader in that area as all came courtesy of his dominant performance.

Meanwhile, Sundown was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their seventh straight defeat dating back to last season. They took a 28-21 hit to the loss column at the hands of New Deal. The match was a 7-7 toss-up at halftime, but the Roughnecks couldn't quite close it out.

Roosevelt's win bumped their record up to 3-1. As for Sundown, their loss dropped their record down to 0-4.
