For the first time this season, Waxahachie will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup on Tuesday. They will welcome the Horn Jaguars at 7:00 p.m. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Waxahachie was handed a nine-run loss in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Saturday. They had just enough and edged out Montgomery 3-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Indians have posted since February 22, 2024.
Meanwhile, Horn waltzed into their game on Friday with two straight wins... but they left with three. Everything went their way against the Skeeters as they made off with an 11-3 win. Considering the Jaguars have won six contests by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Irella Bautista spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on four hits and racked up seven Ks.
At the plate, Jayde Ray and Aaliyah Ashford did most of the damage at the plate: Ray went 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs, while Ashford went 4-for-5 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. The dominant performance gave Ashford a new career-high in hits. The team also got some help courtesy of Zoie Armstrong, who went 2-for-5 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.
Horn was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .457. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .312 or higher in seven consecutive matches.
Waxahachie now has a winning record of 6-5. As for Horn, their victory bumped their record up to 11-7-1.
Waxahachie came out on top in a nail-biter against Horn in their previous matchup back in February of 2016, sneaking past 10-9. Will Waxahachie repeat their success, or does Horn have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
