Softball Recap: Del Rio Triumphs

Del Rio took an 11-run loss the last time they faced off against Medina Valley, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Rams had just enough and edged out the Panthers 6-4.

Karina Limon made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off seven hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Devyn Casillas, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in February. Another player making a difference was Amanda Muniz, who went 2-for-3 with two doubles.

Del Rio is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-16-1 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Medina Valley, their defeat ended a seven-game streak of away wins and brought them to 21-9.

Looking ahead, Del Rio will venture away from home to take on Eagle Pass at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Eagles' pitching crew has only allowed 2.8 runs per game this season, so the Rams' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Medina Valley, they will host Holy Cross at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
