Softball Recap: Garfield Now 10-1 over Last 11 Games

Garfield came out on top against Bishop Blanchet on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive 12-run first inning. The Bulldogs put the hurt on the Bears with a sharp 22-12 win. The Bulldogs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 13 games by eight runs or more this season.

Sammy Breckenridge looked comfortable as she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 13 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Garfield got a massive performance out of Joie Cunningham, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, four runs, and five RBI. That's the most runs Cunningham has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaitlyn Washington, who went 4-for-5 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs.

Garfield was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .657. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Garfield has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-3 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.8 runs over those games. As for Bishop Blanchet, with the loss, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 10-4.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Garfield will head out to face off against Sedro-Woolley at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Cubs will roll in looking for their 16th straight win, something the Bulldogs surely won't give up without a fight. As for Bishop Blanchet, they are taking a road trip to challenge Roosevelt at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
