Athens is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Riverton a 17-0 shutout on Thursday. The Warriors might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four games by ten runs or more this season.
Aubrey Crispen 2027 made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out eight over five innings pitched. Crispen 2027 was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, four RBI, and one stolen base.
In other batting news, Kenzie Szoke 2026 was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and one stolen base. That stolen base marked the first that she has snagged this season. Another player making a difference was Reilen Reynolds 2027, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Athens was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .517. The last time their batting average was this high was back in April of 2024.
Meanwhile, Pleasant Plains didn't have quite enough to beat Pawnee on Monday and fell 3-2. The Cardinals have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Pleasant Plains saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Delaney Murphy, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.
The win got Athens back to even at 5-5. As for Pleasant Plains, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-4-1.
Tuesday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Athens hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .345. However, it's not like Pleasant Plains struggles in that department as they've averaged .330. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
