Baseball Game Preview: Jennings Bulldogs vs. Rayne Wolves

The Jennings Bulldogs and the Rayne Wolves will meet in a dog eat dog contest at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Jennings has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the matchup with four straight losses, while Rayne will come in with three straight victories.

Jennings is headed into the contest having just suffered their biggest defeat since March 20, 2024 on Thursday. They lost 11-3 to South Beauregard.

Jennings saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was John Mason Futch, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Rayne). They blew past David Thibodaux 20-1 on Friday. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded the Wolves with their most commanding win of the season.

The team relied heavily on Cooper Letchworth, who scored four runs and stole a base while going 4-for-4. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in RBI (three). Another player making a difference was Hayden Bullock, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.

Rayne kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Rayne's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 18-6. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to hits: they averaged an imposing 10.67 hits in those games compared to only 4.81 in the others. As for Jennings, their loss dropped their record down to 10-13.

Jennings couldn't quite get it done against Rayne in their previous meeting back in March of 2022 as they fell 6-1. Can Jennings avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
