Soccer Game Preview: Sunnyside vs. Sanger West

The Sunnyside Wildcats will face off against the Sanger West Hornets at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Sunnyside's defense has only allowed 0.4 goals per game this season, so Sanger West's offense will have their work cut out for them.

Sunnyside's defense heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They blew past Madera 3-0. The Wildcats might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six contests by three goals or more this season.

They hit Madera with a three-pronged attack, as the team got scores from Andrew Iraheta, Hector Arizmendi, and Juan Lopez.

Meanwhile, Sanger West put another one in the bag on Tuesday to keep their undefeated season alive. They came out on top against San Joaquin Memorial by a score of 3-1. Given the Hornets' advantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 120th, while the Panthers are ranked 568th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Sanger West pushed their record up to 11-0-5 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only given up two goals over those six games. As for Sunnyside, their win bumped their record up to 13-4-1.

Sunnyside came out on top in a nail-biter against Sanger West when the teams last played back in February of 2024, sneaking past 2-1. Will Sunnyside repeat their success, or does Sanger West have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
