Baseball Game Preview: Century Panthers vs. Mankato West Scarlets

Century is 1-9 against Mankato West since May of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Panthers will challenge the Scarlets at 6:30 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Century 3.9, Mankato West 2.5) so any runs scored will be well earned.

On Tuesday, Century beat John Marshall 4-1. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Panthers.

Aiden Yochim made a big impact no matter where he played. He tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Yochim was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. That double was his first of the season.

In other pitching news, Century got a great performance from Aiden Neshem as he struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and only one walk). Neshem also tossed a walk, which is notable because the Panthers are undefeated when he allows at most two walks, but 3-5 otherwise.

Yochim wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Owen Kelly, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Mankato West strolled into their game on Tuesday with a perfect record and they left with the same. They came out on top against Mankato East by a score of 5-2. The five-run effort marked the Scarlets' lowest-scoring contest of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.

Century now has a winning record of 6-5. As for Mankato West, their record now sits at 6-0.

Century suffered a grim 14-5 defeat to Mankato West in their previous meeting two weeks ago. Can the Panthers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
