Softball Recap: Thornton Trojans vs. Skyview Wolverines
Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Thornton). They never let the Skyview Wolverines onto the board and left with a 12-0 win on Tuesday. The victory was some much needed relief for the Trojans as it spelled an end to their eight-game losing streak dating back to last season.
Mya Grady made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and only two hits while striking out nine over five innings pitched. Grady was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, a triple, and a run. That triple was her first of the season.
In other batting news, Payton Lopez was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4. She also put up a double, which washer first of the season. Elenna Gray was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Thornton kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved they're hit total in three consecutive matches.
Thornton's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-7. As for Skyview, they dropped their record down to 0-6 with that loss, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Thornton will take on Aurora Central at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Skyview, they will play host again on Tuesday to welcome Adams City, where first pitch is scheduled at 4:00 p.m.
