Softball Game Preview: Wink Wildcats vs. Ozona Lions

For the second straight game, Wink will face off against Ozona. A feisty cat fight will be fought as Wink Wildcats challenge Ozona Lions at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Wink has three straight victories, Ozona has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Wink made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Ozona, but they still couldn't quite topple them. Wink was the clear victor by a 14-3 margin over Ozona on Friday. That looming 14-3 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Wildcats yet this season.

Viviana Flores made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out 13 batters over six innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing three bases while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances.

In other batting news, Wink let Kali Clausen and Brelynn Bowden run wild. Clausen went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI, while Bowden scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4. Those two RBI gave Clausen a new career-high. Adelynn Thompson was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-5.

Wink kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive matchups.

Ozona's defeat dropped their record down to 3-5-1. As for Wink, the win got them back to even at 4-4.
